March Photo Challenge . Shades Of Marigold

March’s Theme is ‘Shades of Marigold’
If you are a part of my Grey Salt Collective Facebook Group then you know we’ve done this one before, and you might also remember it was also one of the most popular themes!

The whole idea behind these food photography challenges/prompts is to help all of us get better at our food photography. The ONE THING that moves the needle faster than anything is .. CONTINUED PRACTICE.

We all know it, but making time for it may not come by naturally.
Choosing what to photograph is also a time spender, but by declaring a theme, that part of the equation is done for you!
All you need to do now is decide which skill(s) you’d like to hone.

I almost always start by putting together a themed moodboard for myself, it gets me in the headspace and kicks start my inspiration. Below is one I created for myself from past shoots I’ve already done. I also almost ALWAYS search Pinterest and the gram. Those two places are awesome .. BUT let’s not forget about the other places we should go to for inspiration – nature, movies, museums, even quiet walks to let it all sink in.

OK, on to the Challenge Guidelines – pretty much the same as last month but for ease, I’ll repeat them in the corresponding post, each month:

SHADES OF MARIGOLD

WHAT TO POST:

• The color can be in the food, the surface, background, or the props.
• Use lighting that plays up the boldness of this color. Think Bon Appetit Magazine’s lighting styles or Moody Caravaggio-esque!
• Your choice of image type – recipe, process shot, still life, flatlay…
• For extra fun, snap a bts of your set up and show with your post.

This Prompt is a fun opportunity to utilize color theory.

• Post as many photos as you’d like
